Looking for a fun, family-friendly way to enjoy summer in Georgia? There’s something special about picking your own produce or flowers, grabbing a homemade ice cream, and soaking up some fresh air. These four local farms are all within a short drive and make for a perfect weekend outing or spontaneous day trip.
Here are some of my favorites you might want to check out:
📍 McDonough, GA
🌸 Best for: Flower picking, peaceful vibes, and photo ops
This U-pick flower farm is such a peaceful escape. Wander through rows of gorgeous seasonal blooms—zinnias, sunflowers, cosmos, and more—and make your own bouquet to take home. It’s great for a quiet solo stroll, a girls’ outing, or even just a break from the usual routine.
🗓️ Best time to visit: Mid-morning or early evening (sunsets here are stunning!)
🚗 Drive tip: It’s about 45 minutes south of Atlanta—bring a cooler if you plan to grab lunch after!

📍 McDonough, GA
🍓 Best for: U-pick berries, fresh peach slushies, and lots of summer fun
Southern Belle Farm is a local favorite for good reason. Their U-pick strawberries, peaches, and blackberries are delicious, and there’s a farm market with jams, baked goods, and homemade ice cream. They even have weekend activities like pig races and a cow train for the kids!
🗓️ Best time to visit: Morning to beat the heat—weekdays are less crowded.
🚗 Drive tip: Easy to find off I-75; parking is free and plentiful.
📍 Musella, GA
🍑 Best for: Peaches, peach ice cream, and charming farm vibes
This family-owned farm has been growing peaches since 1897—and you can taste the love in every bite. Grab a basket of just-picked peaches or cool off with their famous peach soft serve. The covered porch and rocking chairs make it easy to slow down and enjoy a summer day.
🗓️ Best time to visit: Mid-June through July for peak peach season
🚗 Drive tip: A little over an hour south of Atlanta—worth it for the peach ice cream alone!
📍 Concord, GA
🍑 Best for: U-pick peaches and homemade peach ice cream
Gregg Farms is a hidden gem in Pike County, especially during peach season. You can pick your own or buy by the basket, then treat yourself to some of the best peach ice cream around (seriously—it’s made fresh on-site!). It's a simple, sweet slice of summer.
🗓️ Best time to visit: Late May through July
🚗 Drive tip: About 1 hour 15 minutes from Atlanta—great option for a quiet weekend trip.
📍 Barnesville, GA
🥕 Best for: Organic produce, farm tours, and peaceful country vibes
Honeywood Farms is a certified organic farm that offers fresh vegetables, scenic grounds, and seasonal events. Whether you're browsing their produce stand, taking a tour, or just enjoying the slower pace, it’s a great spot for families or anyone looking to support local agriculture.
🗓️ Best time to visit: Spring through early fall
🚗 Drive tip: Around 1 hour south of Atlanta—perfect for a laid-back afternoon outing.
If you check out one (or all!) of these spots this summer, I’d love to hear what you picked and what you loved most. Supporting local farms is not just a fun outing—it helps keep these community treasures thriving.
