Georgia’s Haunted Homes and the Stories They Tell

Georgia has no shortage of charming homes and historic architecture—but some of those walls have stories that linger a little longer than others. 👻

With towns that date back to the 1700s and homes that have stood through wars, celebrations, and countless generations, it’s not surprising that a few places in the Peach State are said to have… a little extra character.

Whether you believe in ghosts or just love old houses with history, these spots remind us that every home has a story worth telling.

👻 Rhodes Hall — Atlanta, GA

Known locally as “The Castle on Peachtree,” this 1904 mansion was built for furniture magnate Amos Rhodes. Its Romanesque Revival style—with turrets, stained glass, and winding staircases—makes it one of Atlanta’s architectural treasures.

Today, Rhodes Hall serves as a museum and event space, but some visitors say it’s home to more than just memories. A few have reported strange whispers and the faint sound of children’s laughter echoing through the halls. Whether you chalk that up to imagination or energy from the past, one thing’s certain—this home holds plenty of stories within its stone walls.

🕯️ Windsor Hotel — Americus, GA

In the late 1800s, the Windsor Hotel was the destination for travelers escaping Northern winters. With its Victorian architecture and sweeping balconies, it quickly became a symbol of Southern elegance.

But legend has it, some guests never checked out. The most well-known tale involves a housekeeper and her daughter who died tragically there more than a century ago. Guests still mention hearing footsteps in quiet hallways or doors closing on their own.

Ghosts or not, the Windsor stands as a beautiful reminder of how preservation keeps history—and stories—alive.

🏡 Sorrel-Weed House — Savannah, GA

You can’t talk about haunted homes without mentioning Savannah—it’s often called America’s most haunted city. The Sorrel-Weed House, built in the 1840s, is one of its most famous stops.

Featured on multiple TV shows, it’s known for both its elegant Greek Revival design and its eerie energy. Visitors have described cold spots, flickering lights, and even shadows moving across empty rooms.

But beyond the ghost stories, it’s also a stunning example of 19th-century architecture, carefully preserved for generations to see.

✨ Every Home Has a Story

Even if your home isn’t haunted, it’s likely filled with stories of its own—birthday parties, laughter, late-night conversations, or quiet mornings on the porch.

That’s what makes Georgia’s older homes so special. They remind us that home is more than walls and windows—it’s layers of memories, moments, and the people who’ve lived there.

So as Halloween approaches, maybe it’s okay if a few creaks and bumps in the night make you pause. After all, your home might just be settling in… or sharing a story of its own.
